Home ground

I’m going back to my home town,

back to the banks and parcs i used to know

Crossed the dit road down to town,

left the neon sinds far behind.

On my home ground i feel fine

On my home ground i feel fine

On my home ground i feel fine

I’m going back again

Out in the city of endless streetlights,

drummen in the crowd no place left to go

Overcome me wishin’ to be back home again,

Whenever i feel the stars don’t shine

On my home ground i feel fine

On my home ground i feel fine

On my home ground i feel fine

I’m going back again

When the thriving heart of my soul,

whenever it needs a shelter from this storm

On my home ground i feel fine

On my home ground i feel fine

On my home ground i feel fine

I’m going back again

Going back again,..

Feeling alone in the city.

Small town guy moves to a big guy town and feels he doesn’t quite belong.

The story behind it:

I must have been 20 or 21 when I decided to live on my own. I wanted to live in the big city and moved to Louvain.
Back then I was listening a lot to Ryan Adams and his earlier band Whiskeytown. Songs like “Jacksonville Skyline” and “My Hometown” were haunting my mind. The lyrics on Pneumonia are amongst of Ryan’s best songs! Sure as hell I didn’t came up with lines as “I was born in abundance of inherited sadness.” but the entire Pneumonia album echoes through this entire song.
